STEP (Summer Teen Evening Program) set to Begin

North Plainfield Police Department

Press Release

Chief William Parenti

June 22, 2010

North Plainfield Police Chief William Parenti is pleased to announce that the Borough’s STEP, (Summer Teen Evening Program), is set to begin on Tuesday, June 29, at Stony Brook School at 269 Grove Street.  The program will run from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.  The program allows borough youth to gather in a safe and secure environment for pickup basketball games, soccer, and conversation.  Refreshments are also provided.

Funding for the program is provided by the Municipal Alliance and the Youth Services Commission.  Volunteers from these organizations, and personnel from the Board of Education and the Police Department are always present.

This year will be the program’s 11th year in operation and is considered a huge success.  “We usually have about 50 youth attend but some nights we have had as many as 75, it’s a great example of community organizations and the Borough’s youth coming together”, Chief Parenti said.

The program will run every Tuesday and Thursday, from June 29 to August 19, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.  The program culminates on the last night, August 19, which will be a barbecue style picnic.  All borough teens are welcome to attend.
