Chief William G. Parenti announced this year’s National Night Out will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.  across the street from Police Headquarters 263 Somerset Street.

National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, is supported locally by the Borough of North Plainfield and it involves over 9,800 communities in 50 states. The event is expected to attract more than 30 million people nationwide on Tuesday, August 3.

The intent of the program is for North Plainfield and all other participating jurisdictions across the nation to step outside, turn the lights on and spend time with neighbors, police, fire and EMS representatives. The objectives of National Night Out is to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support and participation in local anti-crime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and community partnerships with police, fire and EMS officials and work together to fight crime.

Meet with your local Police Officers, view police vehicles and equipment.  Learn about neighborhood block watches, expand your knowledge of Crime Prevention, ID theft and Gang Awareness.  In addition, we will have vehicles and personnel form our Fire Department and Rescue Squad.  Join us for a fun filled celebration to include free hamburgers, hot dogs and soda for all participants.  Please tell your neighbors and bring your friends.
