Six-week series, starting May 17. Register by May 13

NORTH PLAINFIELD - Do you want to alleviate pain and fatigue?  Do you want to be more independent and get more out of life?  If so, the Take Control of Your Health workshop is for you!

The Somerset County Department of Health, in partnership with the Somerset County Office on Aging and Disability Services, is sponsoring a FREE six-week interactive Take Control of Your Health workshop series for county residents and caregivers at the North Plainfield Library, located at 6 Rockview Ave.

The workshops will run on Tuesday, May 17, 24 and 31 and June 7, 14 and 21 from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.  Class size is limited and pre-registration is required by Friday, May 13.

“Eighty percent of older Americans are living with one or more long-term health conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, heart disease and osteoporosis,” said Freeholder Peter S. Palmer, public health and safety liaison.  “This workshop series will teach ways to manage these conditions to live a fuller, more productive life.”

Participants will receive a book titled “Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions” and will learn skills to help them take a more active role in their health. The interactive course provides tools needed to manage symptoms, work with health-care professionals, set weekly goals for behavior change, use relaxation techniques and exercise safely and easily.
