Commuter travel information - 11/6/12  

Rail Service:

NJ TRANSIT sustained devastating damage to its rail infrastructure system-wide during Hurricane Sandy.  NJ TRANSIT anticipates it will take as long as 6 weeks to restore full service.  PATH service is still not running. 

NJ TRANSIT encourages customers to travel outside of the morning and afternoon peak periods to avoid delays and crowding.  Customers are also advised to allow additional travel time due to overcrowding and congestion.

Travel to New York City:

NYC bound commuters from Somerset County must change trains at Newark Penn Station.  The bus alternate for train travel to NYC is NJ TRANSIT Bus 108 from Newark Penn Station Bus Lanes, Lane 2, Gate B.

This bus travels to the Port Authority.  The fare is $5.50 each way, exact fare.  Weekly and monthly Raritan Valley Line rail passes will be honored on this bus.  This bus departs the Port Authority Bus Terminal from Gate 213 for the return trip to Newark . 

Travel to Jersey City Waterfront:

The bus alternate for travel to Jersey City is NJ TRANSIT Bus 1.  This bus departs the Market Street East bus lanes from Newark Penn Station.  Weekly and monthly rail passes are cross honored.  The cash fare is $2.35 each way.    

Bus Service:

NJ TRANSIT 114, 117, 65 and 605 buses are operating to/from Somerset County on a regular schedule, but with detours.  Customers are encouraged to allow for extra travel time due to overcrowding.  Please check the travel advisory page for information on detours through Dunellen, Scotch Plains, Plainfield, Middlesex and Princeton. 

NJ TRANSIT is no longer providing bus service from Patriot's Stadium in Bridgewater to the Hoboken Terminal.   

TransBridge Bus Line is following a normal Monday schedule and has resumed service to Newark and JFK Airports , as well as Wall Street and Jersey City . 

Lakeland Bus Line is providing limited service to the Port Authority Bus Terminal from the Summit Rail Station and Summit Park and Ride only. 

Information is changing and being updated quickly.  Check NJ TRANSIT before leaving the office for the trip home and check again later in the evening for next day travel information.
