Bring Food Donations to Ballpark on June 12 to Help Curb Hunger in Somerset County

Patriots Offering Ticket Discount to All Donors

BRIDGEWATER – Baseball fans can step up to the plate and help the hungry in Somerset County by bringing canned food donations to the June 12 game at TD Bank Ballpark.

The Somerset Patriots will play the York Revolution starting at 7:05 p.m.  A table staffed by Curbing Hunger Inc. volunteers will be set up near the turnstiles at the ballpark entrance starting at 5:30 p.m.

Anyone bringing at least one can of food as part of their admission will receive a two-for-one voucher for the Wednesday, June 12 game.  Pre-paid ticket holders can use the voucher for another game during the 2013 season.

The food collection at the ballpark is being held as part of Curbing Hunger Month.  The Somerset County Board of Freeholders and Governor Chris Christie have proclaimed June as Curbing Hunger Month and encourage county residents to put food donations in plastic bags at the curb on their regular recycling days throughout the month.  Donated food goes to the Food Bank Network of Somerset County, the Franklin Township Food Bank and other local food pantries.

This is the 19th year of the curbside food drive in Somerset County.  Canned-food donations will be collected at the curb on residents' recycling days June 3 through 28.  Look for the orange Curbing Hunger bag tied to your blue recycling bucket, or use any plastic grocery bag – just write “food” on it.  There also is an online donation option this year at www.yougivegoods.com/curbinghunger2013
