Sign Up for Emergency Alerts from Somerset County

Severe weather can strike at any time.  To find out about emergency county road closings, program closures or service delays, you can sign up for emergency alerts from Somerset County in a variety of formats.

To receive emergency text alerts on your cell phone, click on the black-and-white icon  at the bottom of the county homepage at www.co.somerset.nj.us   Follow the prompts to enter your cell phone number and optional password.  Although the alerts service is free, text-messaging charges from your wireless carrier may apply.

To register for free email alerts, go to http://bit.ly/SomCntyEmail, provide your email address and select “Emergency Information & Weather Alerts.” You will receive periodic email bulletins about flood watches and warnings, county road and bridge closings and severe weather affecting county programs and services.

You can select non-emergency topics in the county’s email service as well, including press releases, e-newsletters, recycling information, senior center news and more.  Enter one or more email addresses separately and select the topics on which you wish to receive bulletins.  You have the option to provide your ZIP code, which will help tailor future messages to specific areas.  Subscriber information is kept strictly confidential.

“At the one-year anniversary of Superstorm Sandy, we want to remind residents of the many ways they can get the latest countywide information during and after any emergency,” said Freeholder Director Peter S. Palmer.  “In addition to our email and text alerts, our homepage at www.co.somerset.nj.us will have direct links to the most up-to-date information.”
