Ref: Distracted Driving Month

Chief William G. Parenti in cooperation with Prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano “Put it Down” campaign, will be conducting roadside sting operation to catch distracted drivers.  April is “Distracted Driving Awareness Month” with the slogan “u text u drive u pay”.  North Plainfield police officers have stepped up enforcement all month and plan a major effort April 15th.  Tax day is usually bad enough so don’t make a bad day worse.  If police see you with a phone in your hand you will have a ticket in the other.  Police officers will be posing as a construction workers or surveyor standing by the roadway to observe violators, catch police cars farther down the roadway to stop and ticket violators.

·         The number of people killed in distraction-affected crashes decreased slightly from 3,360 in 2011 to 3,328, while an estimated 421,000 people were injured, a 9 percent increase from the estimated 387,000 people injured in 2011.
