Click it or Ticket

Press Release

Chief William G. Parenti announced that the North Plainfield Police are participating in the 2016 national Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement mobilization kicks off beginning May 23 and runs to June 5th, to help save lives by cracking down on those who don’t buckle up.  Because in real life you don’t get second chances or a reset button Chief Parenti said.

Statistics show that passenger vehicle occupants are buckling up more during the day, but not enough at night. This mobilization is created to crackdown on violators 24-7, but a strong enforcement effort is urged between the nighttime hours of 6 p.m. and 5:59 a.m. due to the significant number of violators and fatal crashes during this time.

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2011 nationally, 52 percent of the 21,253 passenger vehicle occupants who were killed in motor vehicle traffic crashes were not wearing their seat belts at the time of the fatal crash.

Seat belt use saves thousands of lives across America each year and Somerset County Law Enforcement is helping spread the word. NHTSA statistics show that in 2011 alone, seat belts saved an estimated 11,949 lives nationwide.

“Those who choose not to wear a seat beltwill feel the heat from our officers who will be out cracking down on Click It or Ticket violators. Motorists should buckle up every time they go out, both day and night,” said Chief William Parenti of the Somerset County Chiefs of Police Association. “Our officers are prepared to ticket anyone not buckled up…no warnings and no excuses. Click It or Ticket.
